Necrophilia and workshops

Fri May 2, 2008, 1:30 AM
This is an announcement. I just wanted to let those who care know that I've been accepted into a poetry workshop at my university. I'm very excited about this as I've heard that admission is somewhat competitive. It's something I've really wanted to do for a while. The poems I submitted were Of Flame and Fruit, Child's Journey, and Necrophilia. If you've been seeing that last poem go up and down and up and down on my page that's because I just can't manage to get the formatting to correctly display. If anyone has any advice on how I can get a poem with long lines to display properly I'd really appreciate it. I've tried posting it is a .doc a pdf, html, and more so any help would be great. I want it to display in a legible format immediately upon viewing. The best I've managed thus far is to submit it as an image that you can click on to view properly but that's not how people interact with poems on this sight and I don't like the undue effort to see my poem. I'm looking forward to sharing this poem with you guys and getting your feedback. Hopefully we'll chat soon.

Your quote is from Dante, not JFK (who was quoting).

yeah, I used to attribute it to Dante, until I discovered that JFK was erroneously attributing Dante. As far as I can tell, the quote originated with JFK.

Apparently it was more of a reiteration of Dante than a quote: [link]

Yeah, seems better to attribute the quote to JFK. Interesting link. Thanks.

I read your comment on my visual poem "Bare Bones" and couldn't help but hide it for flaming. Of course it's not personal, we're online but it would have stayed if you have simply criticized it, not aggressively told me how to write about a subject you assume I know nothing about.

Cheers

Fair enough. I expected the comment to be hidden and I likely would have done the same. In fact, it probably would have been wiser to send a note than post a comment.

As clarification, I wasn't trying to tell you how to write about this particular subject so much as expressing the view that artists have a unique place in society and an obligation to acknowledge complexity when we choose to deal in complex topics/issues.
